adult occupational therapy Adelaide

When can occupational therapy support adults?

Occupational therapy can support adults facing challenges in their daily activities, work, or interactions with their environment. If you struggle with tasks related to fine or gross motor skills, sensory sensitivities, emotional regulation, attention, self-care, or social participation, occupational therapy can provide targeted support.

Our neuro-affirming approach focuses on fostering confidence and independence by tailoring strategies to your unique strengths and needs. Whether at home, in the workplace, or in the community, occupational therapy helps you develop the skills you need to thrive and participate more fully in everyday life.

Recognising when you may benefit from occupational therapy can help address your specific needs and promote your overall well-being and independence.

Fine Motor Skills Difficulties

If you struggle with tasks that require fine motor skills, such as writing, using utensils, buttoning shirts, or manipulating small objects, it may indicate a need for occupational therapy.

Therapists can provide interventions to improve hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and fine motor function.

Sensory Processing Challenges

If you experience extreme reactions or difficulties in responding to sensory stimuli, such as being overly sensitive to touch, sound, light, or even seeking excessive sensory input, occupational therapy can help.

Occupational therapists assess sensory processing difficulties and provide strategies to help you regulate responses and engage more effectively in daily activities.

Self-Care Skills

If you find it challenging to manage activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, feeding, or managing personal care, occupational therapy can assist.

Therapists can work with you to improve self-care skills and promote independence in these areas.

Gross Motor Skills Delays

If you struggle with coordination, balance, or gross motor skills, such as walking, climbing stairs, or performing physical tasks at work, occupational therapy can help.

Occupational therapists can provide interventions to improve motor planning, strength, balance, and coordination.

Organisational and Executive Functioning Challenges

If you have trouble organising tasks, managing time, following through on responsibilities, or staying focused, occupational therapy can assist in developing organisational skills and improving executive functioning.

Therapists can provide strategies to enhance your ability to succeed in both personal and professional life.

Celebrating Neurodiversity

We believe that neurodiversity is a valuable and natural aspect of human variation. Our neuroaffirming approach embraces the understanding that neurological differences, such as autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental conditions, are part of the diverse fabric of humanity.

We celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives neurodivergent individuals bring to society.

Creating an Inclusive Environment

Our approach fosters a safe and accepting space for all individuals, regardless of neurological differences. We aim to create an environment where adults feel understood, accepted, and valued.

By providing a neuroaffirming space, we empower individuals to express themselves authentically and engage in therapy with confidence.

Working Closely with Employers and Workplaces

This partnership can maximise the potential for productivity, satisfaction, and well-being.

Step 1
Initial Planning Session

Your therapist will gather key information, including relevant medical history, daily routines, current supports, sensory preferences, emotional wellbeing, independent living skills, and any challenges impacting your participation at home, work, or in the community.

Together, you will identify meaningful goals for your Therapy Plan to ensure support is aligned with what matters most to you.

Sessions typically run for 60–90 minutes.

Remember, every adult is unique

The presence of one or more of these signs does not necessarily mean that therapy is required. However, if you have concerns about your communication skills, cognitive abilities, or overall functional performance, we recommend consulting with a therapist. They can assess your needs and recommend the best approach to support your development and progress.
